Drina’s Covered Bridge Story

We asked members of Webb Paranormal Group to submit some stories of their experiences. Drina had several that did not disappoint, including this one. As she writes, “There is a historic covered bridge in Smyrna, GA. There are many ghost stories and urban legends that are tied to this bridge. They can be looked up online or heard about if you live within a 20-mile radius. When I met my current boyfriend and found out that he was a paranormal investigator, I had to take him to this bridge. I knew it would fascinate him. It is a one-lane bridge that is approached from a curve on both sides. For that reason, it is required to have your headlights on when driving through it, even in the middle of the day. “ Going to the bridge! “When I took Zach to see the bridge the first time, it was one o’clock in the morning. As an experiment, we decided to stop in the middle of the bridge and turn the vehicle off, including the headlights. We had the windows rolled down and were intently listening for any odd sounds.” “After only a couple of minutes, we heard loud footsteps walking towards us. There was just enough light at each end of the bridge to see if anyone had walked in, and we had seen nothing. I was looking out the back, and Zach looking out the front. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, and I desperately wanted to leave. Zach practically read my mind, because he asked me, “Want to get out of here?” I said yes – and so did a voice from the backseat. There was no one else in the car.” I started my car and flew out of that bridge. I didn’t stop until we were several miles away from it. We actually have a recording of this, as (of course!) we were attempting EVPs while we were investigating the bridge. When we listened to the recording where Zach asked if we should go, you can distinctly hear my voice saying yes, and another voice saying yes that does not sound anything like either one of us.”

“What Exactly Does Webb Paranormal Group Do During A Paranormal Investigation?”

“What happens during a paranormal investigation?” “What exactly do you do?” #Webb Paranormal Group gets asked on many occasions. There are many groups of people who investigate the #paranormal, and each of them do things their own way. Here is a glimpse into the way of Webb Paranormal Group and what happens during our #paranormal investigation. Our paranormal #investigation begins when a #client calls our number to discuss Webb Paranormal Group investigating their property. During this time, one of our Co-founders listens to the issues the client is having and an initial #interview is set up. Each interview varies depending on the claims.  The co-founders listen to establish where to begin the investigation and to take notice of where to place our cameras. Usually, during this interview process, a #release form is signed by everyone stating whether the client allows, or does not allow, their photograph to be published in our posts, blogs, etc. This is completely OK with Webb Paranormal Group! We don’t do this for publicity or money, but only to help those in need. The co-founder of the group then brings all the information gathered to the members. This is the time when the co-founder lets the group know what we have coming up. The group will discuss times we are free and able to go to the location. We value punctuality, as do our clients. Beginning on time makes the whole investigation go smoothly, as we are not in a rush and there are no frazzled nerves or aggravation. Now to begin! We get inside, do a final shorter interview with the whole group there to see if anything new has happened. Then we are ready to begin. We start by breaking out the cameras, running cords, and hooking them to our monitors to watch them live. The initial #setup time, final interview included, takes about an hour. After that is all done, we begin using our #tools with the #EVP recorder. This helps to hear what #Spirit is telling us when we play it back, and it usually sounds like a whisper so upon review we have to pay extra careful attention to make sure we don’t miss anything. We also have other tools, and one of them is a KII meter. Photo Credit to Teresa Fikes The investigators then wrap up all of our equipment, sure to leave no mess behind.  After the investigation, the client and Co-founders go over the evidence collected and discuss whether to cleanse the property.

Into the Minds of Paranormal Investigators: How they Work

When looking at paranormal investigators (PI’s), one usually sees them with various tools and equipment: EMF detectors, temperature sensors, static electricity and ionization detectors, and significant paranormal research software. Some say they’re keen, serious, and weird. Others might ask: what lurks inside the minds of these investigators that they deal with such bizarre paranormal cases? Paranormal analysts look just like ordinary people in many ways; they have family, jobs, concerns, etc. What makes them different from others is their interest in cracking those peculiar phenomena that some people experience, especially about ghosts. The list below tells about the key points they consider during investigations. 1.The Focus The focus of all paranormal investigators is to help people who have experienced several disturbing paranormal events in their lives. While doing investigations, the following things will always be in their mind: 2. The Expectations Expect the unexpected. This is what a PI always considers while conducting the quest. Dealing with several ghosts and spirits is unpredictable. Expecting the worst is what they think to condition their mind for whatever happens, and whatever they’ll find out. They’re brave enough to face ghosts and spirits. 3. The Philosophy These one-of-a-kind investigators have certain philosophies, which keeps them in this extraordinary job. They strongly believe that: Definitely, paranormal investigators are serious. They take cases seriously and do not stop until they get necessary information for their research. All of these are taken into consideration to make the whole investigation successful, so that everyone will be at peace. Webb Paranormal Group are professional paranormal investigators who will take your case seriously. Give them a call today for help.

Who is Kathryn Windham?

Kathryn Tucker Windham was born in Selma, Alabama, on June 2, 1918. She spent the majority of her upbringing in the nearby town of Thomasville. She is known for her work as a journalist, photographer, American storyteller, folklorist, and author.  Kathryn Tucker Windham passed away 10 days following her 93rd birthday on June 12, 2011.  Her First Job as a Writer When she was not even a teenager, Kathryn landed her first writing assignment. It was a gig doing movie reviews for The Thomasville Times,  a small-town newspaper operated by her cousin.  A Brilliant Career Ms. Tucker went on to study at Huntington College, where she earned her Bacculearette Degree in 1939.  Shortly after graduation, she got a job with the Alabama Journal and was the first woman journalist.  After that, she went to work for The Birmingham News in 1944.  A Wife and Mother As if her career as the first woman journalist wasn’t enough, she was also a wife and mother of three. She wed Amasa Benjamin Windham in 1946, becoming Kathryn Windham.  Amasa and Kathryn together shared three children.  Award Winner  Kathryn won several awards for photography and writing from the Associated Press for her work in 1956 at the Selma Times-Journal.   Who Was Jeffrey? The Windham household had an uninvited guest in their home in October of 1966. The family would often hear footsteps coming from a room no one occupied. Also, items would get moved, and no one in the house admitted to doing it. The Windham children named this invisible house guest, Jeffrey.  One evening, the Windham children had some friends over, and someone brought a Ouija board with them.  The children decided to try using the Ouija board to reach out to Jeffrey. During this interaction, someone in the group was able to snap a few photographs. As the photos were developed, a dark and shadowy shape that looked like a human began to form.  It was these experiences with Jeffrey that inspired Kathryn Windham to write stories about Jeffrey and other ghosts. Webb Paranormal Group visited one of the ghost listed in her book. The group held an investigation into the gravesite of William Grancer Harrison, who is buried in Kinston, Alabama

William “Grancer” Harrison Tomb Visited in 2023

William “Grancer” Harrison Tomb Visited in 2023 The Webb Paranormal Group decided to go back and visit the Dancing Ghost of Coffee County. We have some new members and thought this would be awesome to have them experience it. Moving to Coffee County William “Grancer” Harrison moved to Coffee County in the 1830s. He purchased more than 2,500 acres and built his home on it. Horse Races He loved horse race, so he included a race track on his property. People would come to show off their beautiful horses. I am sure there was some wagering going on too. The Dance Hall William also was a musician who loved to dance. His favorite instrument was the fiddle. He wanted to have a place for all his family and friends to come to just have some fun and relax. He had a dance hall built that had the finest polished dance floor in it. He would call the dances he held on a Saturday night. I can just hear that fiddle, the tapping of the clogging shoes, the laughter, and William’s voice calling out to the dancers. Days before the event, William would have his slaves cut down oak trees to ensure adequate charcoal for barbecuing the crowd. In the End As life went on for him, the realization that the end was near for him, he began to plan for his death. He wanted to be buried in his feather bed, wearing his dancing clothes, clogging shoes and his fiddle in his hand. He was preparing to play and dance in the afterlife. Or was he? His instructions for his tomb was that the slaves would build a wooden shelter over it. Inside the shelter, it would have benches. Over the doorway, he instructed the small axe or hatchet to be hung over it. The tomb istself was started from the bricks, his slaves hauled from a kiln in Milton, Florida. When the time came he was to leave this world for the next, the slaves was to tote him in his feather bed to the place. Then they was instructed to entomb him with the remaining bricks he had set aside for this purpose. There was window glass that he had also purchased that was to be placed on the sides of the tomb so he could peer out to see the slaves. You see he wanted to continue to set in judgement of any slaves that misbehaved and he could pass the punishment as he had done in life. He also wanted to see the dance hall and hear the music and partying so the place he picked for his tomb was near the dance hall he loved so much. His wife, Nancy, decided to not add in the windows. I am not sure why but could be that vandals would have been able to easily access the body. Vandals has wreaked havoc on the tomb many times since his burial in 1860. So for 163 years now, he has been lying in the bed shaped tomb and occassionally being visited by curious people wanting to catch a glimpse of his ghostly figure dancing to the sound of his fiddle music. This is a glimpse of Webb Paranormal Group at the tomb of William Grancer Harrison in Kinston, AL.

Old Bullock County Jail Museum

Blaine Rohan, a Spiritualist, was intriguing to our little group as he explained the safety involved in investigating. It is not just a physical danger, but a spiritual danger we must all be aware of when performing a paranormal investigation. On June 25, 2022, the Webb Paranormal Group visited the Old Bullock County Jail Museum in Union Springs with a team of investigators, a spiritualist, and a Forensic Scientist. Later, he leads a group of us into the infamous jail to explain the use of the equipment and protocols. She shared his stories from Pauly Jail sitting around the bull pen table on the second floor. Kacey Luster from Category 5 Paranormal also joined us for the night. She hung in there with us. She shared her Pauly Jail experiences with us. Carol Malone, a Forensic Scientist, along with her husband, Michael, helped to teach us how forensics can help in the paranormal field. We all tagged along as Carol explained every detail of what she was doing, what chemicals she was using, and how it worked, and then the results were jaw-dropping.

WEBB Guest: David Oman – a Life Steeped in the Paranormal

On March 14, WEBB’s own Stan Fikes had the pleasure of interviewing author, producer and creator #David Oman. Oman has been fascinated with the #paranormal since he was a child. Oman’s name has been well-known among the paranormal investigative community for years. Oman caught the public’s eye in 1999 when he, accompanied by this father, constructed a house on Cielo Drive in Los Angeles. Yes, that Cielo Drive, where the infamous Manson family murders took place. To find out more about Oman’s home on the street where #Sharon Tate and her guests were brutally murdered, be sure to visit http://theomanhouse.com. The Many Hats Worn by David Oman Oman wears many hats and has had a rather eclectic career, including working as a private investigator for 12 years. He experimented with videos and has an adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit, resulting in various projects and creative endeavors. To this day, he continues to use video as a medium of recording his strange encounters on Cielo Drive. Oman has become somewhat of a household name among paranormal investigative communities. He has also appeared on numerous popular paranormal reality shows. Last, but certainly not least, Oman has been a featured guest on multiple mainstream news and TV segments, not to mention the iconic Coast to Coast. Fascinating, Unusual, Bizarre and Captivating Oman’s led a life that can only be described as fascinating, unusual, bizarre and captivating. Be sure to listen to Stan’s interview with David Oman to hear some of Oman’s most bizarre, chilling and amazing tales of growing up in a world steeped with paranormal activity. Be sure to check out Oman’s other popular website, devoted to the DeWitt murders. Ominously, Oman writes the following of the DeWitt murders: “None of the more recent developments in forensic science have allowed for any breaks in the case, and as the file has remained opened on the DeWitt murder spree, modern-day detectives still attempt to piece together the unsolved events of that night. This site is a testament to the events of that night and to the memory of the four beautiful lives that were lost at the hands of a dangerous culprit that remains at large.” Listen to the full interview here, courtesy of Spreaker.

The Andrea Perron Family: A Conjuring

Who is Andrea Perron? In this premiere edition of the Webb Paranormal Group Newsletter, we are focusing in on author Andrea Perron, whose incredible real-life experiences formed the basis of 2013’s The Conjuring. Perron, whose accomplishments include penning the trilogy House of Darkness House of Light, was born and raised in Southern New England. In 1970, Perron moved to an 18th-century farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island along with her four sisters and her parents, Roger and Carolyn. For the next 10 years, what would follow would be a terrifying tumble into a paranormal abyss, with an ever-powerful dark entity seeming to draw energy from the chaos that ensued within the Perron household. From sharp temperature drops in the middle of the night to phantom dark shadows and sudden loud bangs, things quickly went from strange to absolutely horrifying. The Perrons were under attack–but by what, or whom? It is believed that there were several dark forces at play, not just one. That said, one being was stronger, darker, more violent and more dangerous than the rest. The family of seven was being downright taunted and tormented by a dark force, an entity who clearly claimed the farmhouse as her own. This was her house and she ruled it. Who was she? Mrs. Lorraine Warren said her name was Bathsheba. The family believes it was a spirit long dead before Bathsheba was born. The Real Bathsheba Bathsheba Sherman sometimes referred to as Bathsheba Thayer, is believed by some to be the embodiment of the dark force that tormented the Perron family during the 1970s to the extent of inflicting actual visible, physical harm as well as relentless psychological torment. Ed and Lorrain Warren Mrs. Warren claimed that Bathsheba represents a ghost, witch and demon all in one; a dark paranormal entity with seemingly endless power. In The Conjuring, at the culmination of Bathsheba’s attack against the Perron family, they would seek out the help of famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The late Ed Warren was a demonologist who would assist in exorcisms and the removal of cursed objects from homes. Lorraine Warren, who resides in Connecticut, is believed to have psychic abilities offering her a unique, terrifying insight into the world of the paranormal. Together, the two would visit troubled households across New England and lecture at various college campuses regarding their research and work, often addressing lecture halls full of skeptics. The Movie the Conjuring In the film, the Warrens found a worthy adversary in Bathsheba. The Warrens remain highly controversial by their peers in the field of paranormal investigation, as well as those who have studied their research in the scientific and psychological communities, often labeling the Warrens as inauthentic, using a blend of religion, pseudoscience and acting in order to exploit the afflicted. However, prior to Ed’s death, the Warrens did regularly lecture at academic conferences and routinely held their own in rooms filled with skeptics. Often, Ed and Lorraine would show video footage of their work, such as participating in an exorcism, to the audience while giving a presentation. The effect was chilling, often leaving even the most unbelieving utterly speechless. Real or Facts So, in the case of the Perron homestead, what is fact and what is fiction, what is real and what is imagined, what liberties did Hollywood take, what can be historically proven, and what did the Perron family actually experience? As far as history goes, it has been verified that a real woman named Bathsheba Sherman lived close by the property that the Perron family would later occupy. She was born in 1812 and died in 1885. What is also known is that many of Bathsheba’s neighbors were frightened of her, believing her to be a Satanist and practitioner of malevolent witchcraft. Andrea Perron defends this spirit, giving her the full benefit of the doubt, and firmly believes Bathsheba is being tormented in death because of her inaccurate portrayal and the rumor and innuendo which persists long after her mortal demise. She can no longer defend herself. Andrea does it for her. According to local folklore and legend, Bathsheba was as evil in life as she would prove to be in death. There were rumors that Bathsheba sacrificed an infant in her care to Satan for the sake of eternal youth and beauty. Of course, though exonerated of all wrongdoing during an inquest, Bathsheba may have been unfairly judged by the court of public opinion in Puritan New England, with Salem just a stone’s throw away, its fires still smoldering. Fueled with the fire and brimstone packed sermons of the likes of Jonathan Edwards, famed author of “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” if there was someone who was an outcast, they were demonized, feared and shunned. Not well liked, but was she evil? Perhaps the real Bathsheba was simply not well-liked, and the rumors, which followed her were largely exaggerated or downright untrue. Or, in the alternative, she could have been a mortal woman who committed evil acts. What is known is that after she died, Bathsheba (or the idea of Bathsheba) would transform into something truly reprehensible and evil, leaving behind any and all traces of humanity that she may have once had. If people lack the ability to be purely good or purely evil, then perhaps those same limitations do not apply to the spirit realm. Perhaps whatever inherent evil that was once a smoldering ember inside Bathsheba’s tormented soul while she walked this earth would soon become a raging flame that would engulf her completely after her death. Who was the evil spirit? Whether or not it was Bathsheba Sherman, there was a female spirit lurking in the farmhouse for over 150 years, as if waiting for the arrival of the Perron family. And when they arrived, she would greet them. What did the Perron family actually experience? The stench of rotting meat often indicated a ghostly presence, an observation several members of the family would make.

The Top Three Scientific Explanations for Ghost Sightings

#Paranormal or just plain ordinary? Joe Techapanupreeda/Shutterstock Neil Dagnall, Manchester Metropolitan University From ghosts to ghouls, witches to wizards, Halloween is the one time of the year when people come together to celebrate everything #supernatural. But beyond the fancy dress and trick or treating, belief in ghosts is actually relatively common – with 38% of people classifying themselves as believers and a similar number have actually reported seeing one. The term “#ghost” refers to the idea that the spirits of the dead – human and animal – influence the physical world. And the idea of a haunting can often include anything from a sensed presence, or objects moving, to spirit activity. But in a world filled with science and reason, these “#hauntings” can often boil down to a very simple explanation. So with Halloween just around the corner, here are the top three scientific and psychological explanations for hauntings, spirits, spookiness and all things supernatural – although it should be noted that many important questions have yet to be resolved … 1. Because I told you so Attempts to explain hauntings often draw upon #psychological factors – such as suggestion – so being told a place is haunted is more likely to lead to ghostly goings-on. One classic study saw participants visiting five main areas of a theatre before completing a questionnaire to assess their feelings and perceptions. Prior to the tour, one group was told the location was haunted, while the other group was informed that the building was under renovation. Unsurprisingly, participants that were told the place was haunted experienced more intense experiences – similar to those of paranormal happenings. Verbal suggestion has also been shown to increase #paranormal perceptions – as shown in research on seance phenomena, paranormal key bending, and psychic reading – especially when the suggestion is consistent with existing #paranormal beliefs. No spirits here…Shutterstock But research in real-world settings has produced inconsistent results. A study in the supposedly haunted Hampton Court found that suggestion had no effect on participants’ expectations of experiencing unusual phenomena, or their tendency to attribute unusual phenomena to ghosts. So it is fair to say that the effects of suggestion vary depending upon a person’s beliefs. And of course, paranormal believers are prone to endorsing alleged paranormal phenomena – while skeptics will deny the existence of the paranormal. 2. Electromagnetic fields and spooky sounds Other explanations draw on environmental factors, such as electromagnetic fields and infrasound. Canadian neuroscientist Michael Persinger demonstrated that the application of varying electromagnetic fields to the temporal lobes of the brain could produce haunting experiences – such as perception of a presence, a feeling of God or sensations of being touched. And it has been noted that areas most associated with hauntings – such as Hampton Court – do possess erratic magnetic fields. Is that a figure I see before me?Shutterstock Similarly, infrasound – audio frequency below the range of human hearing – is also thought to be able to explain such phenomena. Several studies have linked infrasound and bizarre sensations. In one example, contemporary pieces of live music were laced with infrasound and the audience were then asked to describe their reactions to the music. More unusual experiences were reported when infrasound was present – chills down the spine, feeling nervous, waves of fear and uneasy or sorrowful emotions. 3. Toxic hallucinations “Supernatural” perceptions can also arise from reactions to toxic substances – such as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and pesticide. It has also been suggested that fungal hallucinations – caused by toxic mold – could stimulate haunting-related perceptions. Probably best to stay out of the graveyard if you’ve been on the mushrooms.Shutterstock Shane Rogers and his team from Clarkson University in the US observed similarities between paranormal experiences and the hallucinogenic effects of fungal spores. This may explain why #ghost sightings often occur in older buildings with inadequate ventilation and poor air quality. The notion is not new and experts have previously reported a similar effect associated with old books. They claim that mere exposure to toxic moulds can trigger significant mental or neurological symptoms, which create perceptions similar to those reported during haunting experiences.
